Research Paper – no header on first page

updated 10/2009

Alrighty, you are not supposed to have a header on the first page of your paper.  For this discussion, we are going to say that the first page of your paper IS the first page of your paper – not your title page, ok?

Hello, hello.  Hello?  Anyone out there?  Would someone please leave a comment?  Is anyone reading these words of wisdom?

(You did paste your Works Cited page in as the last page of your paper, didn’t you?  Well, you were supposed to.  It should be the last page of your paper and it should start at the very, very, very top of the page.  And the header should be on this page.)

Go ahead and print JUST page one of your paper BEFORE adding the header.  Go to file, print, and check the circle for pages and enter “1″ in the box.  Of course, if you are ON page one of your paper you can go to file, print, and check the circle for “current page” so that just your first page prints.

It has no header.

Now.  Add your header.

Print the remainder of your paper.  Go to file, print, and check the circle for pages and enter “2-X” —- X being the number of pages you have.  If you have six pages you’d put “2-6″ in that space.

That was not difficult was it?  Good luck, people.  It’s time like these that make me glad I’m old.

Current Events

Alot of teachers require students read a current event and write a summary. Most require students turn in a copy of the article. If you’re printing an article from the Internet, look for a “print friendly” link instead of just clicking PRINT. Using a print friendly version saves you a TON of printer ink and that stuff ain’t cheap.

Sometimes it can be difficult to locate that little print friendly link.  It might just be a picture of a little bitty printer. Most of the time it’s going to be somewhere near the top or the bottom of the page, but not always!

And…..

Did you know you can print on “draft” or “economy” and save alot of that expensive printer ink. Go to file, print, and then look around for an option to print as draft or economy. Where you go and what you click is going to depend on your printer. Check out all the tabs and all the buttons to find this feature. Some printers allow you to set this draft or economy as your default settings so that every time your print happy child prints he/she won’t have any option BUT to print cheapo. My old HP712 wouldn’t let me set this as my default; we had to manually select this option every time. My kids were great about doing this because I wasn’t always swift to buy a new ink cartridge. The problem was my dh (dear husband)….he seldom changed the settings.

You can’t really tell a difference either … from a regular copy and one printed in the draft or economy mode … unless you hold up one of each side by side.

Got off the topic, sorry.

Current events. Ok. Go to the high school library Website

….and you’ll find links to several local, state, and national newspapers. 9th grade Mississippi Studies students will have to have a current event that deals with Mississippi … unless the requirements change. Requirements vary from class to class. But, make them babies look for that print friendly link!
